Progression Between Grades Or Between Steps Within The Same Grade

After completing a set time period at a minimum in a satisfactory manner, permanent employees below the tenth step in their grade are often eligible for increments in step. In a typical progression that lasts two years and 52 months (one year) pass between steps 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4. Then, an additional 104 weeks (two years) occur between the steps of 5-6, 4-5 and 6-7. Lastly at an average of 156 weeks (three years) occur between steps 7-8, 8-9 and 9-10 until the highest stage is reached at the 10th step. A “quality step increase” (“QSI”) is, on the other hand, may be given to an employee in celebration of their exceptional performance at work. A QSI elevates the employee one step within-grade, regardless of the amount of time they have spent at the prior step. Assuming that a QSI is granted and the date of the QSI is then the date of the beginning of the next step increment, which (if additional step increases are given in accordance with the standard procedure) will reduce the amount of time needed for an employee to complete the last step within a grade.
