Progression Between Grades Or Between Steps Within The Same Grade

After having completed a certain length of service at a minimum in a satisfactory manner, permanent workers who are below the tenth step in their grade are often eligible for increments in step. In a typical progression of two years and 52 months (one year) elapse between steps 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4. Then, an additional 104 weeks (two years) occur between steps 4-5, 5-6, and 6-7. Lastly at up to 156 weeks (three years) are elapsed between the steps of 7-8, 8-9 and 9-10 until the highest level is reached in the step number 10. The term “quality step increase” (“QSI”) On the other hand, may be offered to employees in recognition of exceptional job performance. A QSI advances the employee one grade within the same level, regardless of of time they have spent at the prior step. Assuming an QSI is granted then the date of the QSI is then the date of the beginning for the subsequent step increase and (if further increases in step are granted according to the standard procedure) will reduce the amount of time needed for an employee to reach the last step within the grade.
