GS Pay Table 2022

GS Pay Table 2022GS Pay Scale 2022 – In the United States civil service, the General Schedule (GS) is by far the most commonly used pay scale. The majority of white collar occupations (professional technical, administrative as well as clerical posts) are covered under the GS classification. At the time of this writing, 71 per cent of civilian workers were paid in accordance with the GS. They are similar to GS pay rates, which are now public.

In addition to it, there’s also the Federal Wage System (WG), which is used for federal blue-collar civilian employees The Senior Executive Service and the Executive Schedule, which are used for high-ranking federal employees, and various other pay schedules employed by certain agencies like those of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the Foreign Service, the remaining 29 percent were paid in other systems. Since 2009, some government employees were also paid in accordance with Pay Bands.

Grade And Step Structure Are Important Considerations

It is broken down into 15 grades (GS-1, and GS-2. ) Each grade further divided into 10 steps (GS-10, etc.). There were previously three General Services (GS) “super grades,” which were eliminated in the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, and replaced with the Senior Executive Service (now known as the Senior Level (non-supervisory) pay scale) and the more modern Senior Level (non-supervisory) pay scale.

The majority of jobs within the competitive service are compensated in accordance with the GS. Furthermore, this General Schedule (GS) is used as the basis to establish pay rates for numerous occupations in the excepted service. The designation for grade “GG” is used by various posts within the excepted service, including “GG-12” and “GG-13,” among others. The pay rates for GGs is nearly identical to those for GSs, as published by the government.

Entry-level employment is often found in areas of GS-1 and GS-7 classification levels, whereas middle-level positions are typically found in grades 8 through 12 and the highest-level jobs (such as high-skilled managers, senior managers technicians, and doctors) are available in grades 13 through 15. An incoming GS employee is usually assigned to the first level of their given GS grade. But, the employer does have the right to make the first appointment to be at an upper level to encourage recruitment (other agencies might place the employee in a higher grade). This is why the majority of professional occupations define entry-level mid-level positions in two-grade increments. As an example, an employee could move from General Schedule 5 to the General Schedule 7 and then to the General Schedule 9, and then onto the General Schedule 11 without passing through grades 6, 8 and 10.

Progression Between Grades Or Between Steps Within The Same Grade

After completing a set length of service in a minimum acceptable manner, permanent employees below the tenth step in their grade are often eligible to step increments. In a typical progression, 52 weeks (one year) go by between steps 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4. After that, an additional 104 weeks (two years) are elapsed between the steps of 4-5, 5-6 and 6-7. Then after that, the 156 weeks (three years) pass between the steps of 7-8, 8-9 and 9-10, until the ultimate stage is reached at step 10. A “quality step increase” (“QSI”), on the other hand, maybe awarded to an employee in appreciation of their outstanding job performance. A QSI advances the employee one step within-grade, regardless of the amount of time spent at the prior step. Assuming a QSI is granted, the date of the QSI is the date that will be used as the starting point for the following step increase and (if further increases in step are granted in accordance with the standard procedure) will reduce the amount of time needed to allow employees to be able to take the ultimate step in a grade.
