Progression Between Grades Or Between Steps Within The Same Grade

After having completed a certain duration of service in a minimum acceptable manner, permanent employees below the tenth step in their classification are typically eligible for increments of step. In a typical progression of the duration of 52 weeks (one year) elapse between the steps of 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4. Then, the 104-week period (two years) pass between the steps of 4-5, 5-6 and 6-7. Finally, the 156 weeks (three years) are elapsed between the steps of 8-9, 7-8 and 9-10, until the final level is reached in the 10th step. The term “quality step increase” (“QSI”), on contrary, could be awarded to an employee in the recognition of outstanding performance in their job. A QSI increases the employee by one level within-grade regardless of the time they’ve spent at the previous step. Assuming a QSI is granted and the date of the QSI becomes the beginning date for the following step increase in which case (if subsequent step increases are granted according to the regular procedure) will decrease the amount of time needed to allow an employee to reach the final step of the grade.
