GS 2022 Pay Scale OPM

GS 2022 Pay Scale OPMGS Pay Scale 2022 – In the United States civil service, the General Schedule (GS) is by far the most common pay scale. A large proportion of white-collar jobs (professional technical, administrative, and clerical positions) are included in the GS classification. At the time of writing, 71 percent of civilian workers were paid in accordance with the GS. These are the same as GS pay rates that are now public.

Alongside there is the Federal Wage System (WG) that is utilized for federal blue-collar civilian employees as well as the Senior Executive Service and the Executive Schedule are employed for high-ranking federal employees, as well as other pay schedules that are unique to the country employed by certain agencies such as The United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the Foreign Service, the remaining 29 percent were paid in different methods. Since 2009, certain government workers have also been compensated in accordance with Pay Bands.

Grade And Step Structure Are Important Considerations

It is divided into 15 classes (GS-1, GS-2, etc. ) and each grade further divided into ten steps (GS-10, etc.). Formerly, there were three General Services (GS) “super grades,” which were eliminated by the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, and were replaced with the Senior Executive Service (now known as the Senior Level (non-supervisory) pay scale) and the more modern Senior Level (non-supervisory) pay scale.

The majority of jobs that are in the competitive service are paid in accordance with the GS. In addition to that, this General Schedule (GS) is utilized as a base to establish pay rates for a variety of occupations within the service that is not excepted. The designation for grade “GG” is used by many posts of the excepted service, including “GG-12” and “GG-13,” in addition to others. Pay rates of GGs is nearly equal to the pay rates for GSs as provided by the federal government.

The entry-level positions are typically found at those in the GS-1 through GS-7 classification levels, while mid-level jobs are available in grades 8 through 12 and the highest-level jobs (such as senior managers, highly skilled technicians, and doctors) are typically found in grades 13 through 15. New GS employee is usually assigned to the first step of their GS grade. However, employers have the authority to allow the first appointment to be made at higher levels to encourage recruitment (other agencies could place the employee at a different grade). As a result, most professional professions categorize entry-level to mid-level positions in two-grade increments. For instance, an employee is able to move from General Schedule 5 to the General Schedule 7 and then to the General Schedule 9, and lastly, onto the General Schedule 11 without passing through grades 6, 8 and 10.

Progression Between Grades Or Between Steps Within The Same Grade

After completing a set length of service in a minimum acceptable way, permanent workers below the tenth step in their level are usually qualified for increments of step. In a typical progression that lasts the duration of 52 weeks (one year) pass between steps 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4. Then the 104-week period (two years) are elapsed between steps 4-5, 5-6, and 6-7. Finally after that, 156 weeks (three years) elapse between steps 7-8, 8-9 and 9-10, till the last level is reached in the 10th step. A “quality step increase” (“QSI”), on contrary, could be granted to an employee as celebration of their exceptional performance at work. A QSI increases the employee by one level within-grade regardless of the time spent at the prior step. Assuming an QSI is granted then the date of the QSI is then the date of the beginning for the following step increase and (if subsequent step increases are granted as per the standard procedure) will cut down the time it takes for an employee to complete the final step within a grade.
