2022 Proposed GS Pay Scale – GS Pay Scale 2022 – Among the members of the United States civil service, the General Schedule (GS) is by far the most common pay scale. Grade And Step Structure Are Important Considerations
It is divided into 15 grades (GS-1, GS-2, etc. ) and each grade is further subdivided into ten steps (GS-10, etc.). There were previously three General Services (GS) “super grades,” which were abolished by the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, and were replaced with the Senior Executive Service (now known as the Senior Level (non-supervisory) pay scale) as well as the current Senior Level (non-supervisory) pay scale.
The majority of posts in the competitive service are paid according to the GS. Furthermore, it is the General Schedule (GS) is used as a foundation to establish pay rates for many occupations within the service that is not excepted. The designation for grade “GG” is used by several posts in the excepted service, such as “GG-12” and “GG-13,” in addition to other posts. This is why the majority of professional occupations classify entry-level to mid-level posts in two-grade increments. For example, a worker could move from General Schedule 5 to the General Schedule 7 and then to the General Schedule 9, and lastly, to the General Schedule 11 without passing through grades 6, 8 and 10.
Progression Between Grades Or Between Steps Within The Same Grade
When they have completed a specified length of service in at least an acceptable way, permanent workers below the tenth level of their grade are often qualified for increments in step. In the typical progression one year, the duration of 52 weeks (one year) are elapsed between steps 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4. After that, an additional 104 weeks (two years) occur between steps 4-5, 5-6, and 6-7. Then, 156 weeks (three years) occur between the steps of 7-8, 8-9 and 9-10 until the highest stage is reached at step 10. A “quality step increase” (“QSI”) is, on contrary, could be granted to an employee as celebration of their exceptional performance at work. A QSI raises the employee one level within-grade regardless of the amount of time spent at the prior step. If that a QSI is granted and the date of the QSI is the date that will be used as the starting point for the subsequent step increase that (if further increases in step are granted as per the regular procedure) will reduce the amount of time needed for an employee to achieve the last step within the grade.
