2022 GS Pay RaiseGS Pay Scale 2022 – In the United States civil service, the General Schedule (GS) is by far the most widely used pay scale. A significant portion of white-collar jobs (professional, technical, administrative and clerical jobs) are part of the GS classification. As of the date at the time of writing, 71 percent of civilian employees received compensation under the GS. These rates are comparable to GS pay rates, which were made public.

In addition to the Federal Wage System (WG), which is used for civilian federal blue-collar employees and the Senior Executive Service and the Executive Schedule are utilized for high-ranking federal employees, and various other pay schedules used by some agencies like The United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the Foreign Service, the remaining 29 percent of employees were compensated under other systems. Since 2009, some government employees are also compensated in accordance with Pay Bands.

Grade And Step Structure Are Important Considerations

It is broken down into 15 grades (GS-1, GS-2, etc. ) Each grade further divided into 10 steps (GS-10, etc.). Formerly, there were three General Services (GS) “super grades,” which were abolished by the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, and replaced with the Senior Executive Service (now known as the Senior Level (non-supervisory) pay scale) and the more current Senior Level (non-supervisory) pay scale.

The majority of jobs that are part of the competitive service will be compensated in accordance with the GS. Furthermore to that, this General Schedule (GS) is used as a foundation in determining the pay rate for various occupations in the service that is not excepted. The grade designation “GG” is used by numerous posts within the excluded service, including “GG-12” and “GG-13,” in addition to other posts. Pay rates of GGs are exactly the same as the pay rates for GSs stated by the government.

Entry-level employment is often found among the GS-1 through GS-7 classification levels. On the other hand, mid-level roles are found in grades 8 to 12 and the highest-level jobs (such as high-skilled managers, senior managers technicians and doctors) can be found between the grades of 13 and 15. The first GS employee is typically allocated to the first level of their GS grade. But, the employer does have an option to give the first appointment to be at an upper level as a recruitment incentive (other agencies could place an employee in a higher grade). Therefore, the majority of professional professions categorize entry-level to mid-level positions in two-grade increments. As an example, an employee would advance from the General Schedule 5 to the General Schedule 7 and then to the General Schedule 9, and eventually onto the General Schedule 11 without passing through grades 6, 8 and 10.

Progression Between Grades Or Between Steps Within The Same Grade

When they have completed a specified duration of service at a minimum in a satisfactory way, permanent workers below the tenth step of their level are usually eligible to step increments. In a typical progression one year, five years of (one year) pass between steps 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4. Then, an additional 104 weeks (two years) elapse between steps 4-5, 5-6, and 6-7, and finally at an average of 156 weeks (three years) elapse between the steps of 7-8, 8-9 and 9-10, until the final step is completed at the 10th step. The term “quality step increase” (“QSI”) On the other hand, may be granted to an employee as celebration of their exceptional performance at work. A QSI raises the employee one level within-grade regardless of of time spent at the prior step. If an QSI is granted that date, the QSI becomes the start date for the next step increase and (if further increases in step are granted as per the regular procedure) will cut down the amount of time needed for employees to be able to take the last step within the grade.
