2022 Federal Pay Scale GSGS Pay Scale 2022 – For the employees of the United States civil service, the General Schedule (GS) is by far the most popular pay scale. A significant portion of white-collar jobs (professional, technical, administrative, and clerical positions) are part of the GS classification. At the time of this writing, 71 per cent of civilian employees received compensation under the GS. They are identical to the GS pay rates which were released to the public.

Alongside the Federal Wage System (WG), which is used for federal blue-collar civilians as well as the Senior Executive Service and the Executive Schedule, which are used for federal employees with high rank, and also other unique pay plans used by some agencies such as The United States Securities and Exchange Commission and the Foreign Service, the remaining 29 percent of employees were compensated under other methods. Grade And Step Structure Are Important Considerations

Entry-level employment is often found among classes ranging from GS-1 through GS-7 classification levels. However, mid-level jobs are available between grades 8 and 12 and higher-level positions (such as senior managers, highly skilled technicians, and doctors) can be found in grades 13-15. An incoming GS employee is usually assigned to the initial step of their given GS grade. However, employers have the authority to allow the first appointment to be made at an upper level to encourage recruitment (other organizations may assign the employee at a higher grade). In the end, many professional professions categorize entry-level to mid-level positions with two grade increments. As an example, an employee would advance from the General Schedule 5 to the General Schedule 7 and then to the General Schedule 9, and lastly, onto the General Schedule 11 without passing through grades 6, 8 and 10.

Progression Between Grades Or Between Steps Within The Same Grade

When they have completed a specified time frame with at least a decent manner, permanent employees below the tenth step in their grade are often qualified for step increments. In a typical progression one year, two years and 52 months (one year) go by between the steps of 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4. Then an additional 104 weeks (two years) are elapsed between the steps of 4-5, 5-6 and 6-7, and finally at 156 weeks (three years) are elapsed between steps 7-8, 8-9 and 9-10 until the highest level is reached in the step number 10. A “quality step increase” (“QSI”) On the other hand, may be granted to an employee as the recognition of outstanding performance in their job. A QSI increases the employee by one level within-grade regardless of the amount of time spent at the prior step. Assuming a QSI is granted then the date of the QSI becomes the start date for the next step increase, which (if subsequent step increases are given in accordance with the standard procedure) will decrease the amount of time needed to allow an employee to achieve the last step within the grade.
